Picture Description: The Carsons probably followed the Great Philadelphia Wagon Road from New Castle County, Delaware, to Big Lick (Roanoke), Virginia, then southwest on The Wilderness Road to Abingdon, Virginia. From Abingdon, they probably followed the Wilderness Road through Cumberland Gap and as far as the Fort Nelson, also called Falls of the Ohio (Louisville). From there, they probably traveled by flat boat down the Ohio to Indiana Territory.
