Pharaoh Cobb was born in September 1752 in Northampton County, North Carolina.2 He was the son of William Cobb and Barsheba Whitehead.1 He married Barsheba Whitehead, his mother's niece.3 He died on 22 February 1841 in Hawkins County, Tennessee, at age 88.4,2 His will, dated 1823, was probated in 1841 in Hawkins County.3,2
In 1776 Pharaoh Cobb belonged to a company of volunteers, and in the summer of that year he served four months as a sergeant under Captain Womack in the North Carolina expedition against the Cherokee Indians. In 1777 he served for three months as a mounted ranger or spy in Captain Thomas Price's Company. In the fall of 1777 or 1778 he served for two months as a mounted volunteer under Colonel Isaac Shelby and after returning home he volunteered on two other tours against the Tories on Roan Creek. In 1780, under Colonel Shelby, he fought at the Battle of Musgrove's Mill in North Carolina.3,2 He fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain 7 October 1780 near the North and South Carolina border.5 After the Revolution, circa 1798, he removed in flat boats down the river to Hawkins County, Tennessee, where he settled. He applied for a pension on 27 May 1833 which was allowed.3
