John Pickens was born in 1745 in Augusta County, Virginia.1 He was the son of Captain Andrew Pickens and Anne Davis.1 He died on 16 December 1781 in Georgia.1

John Pickens was captured by Tories along with several others, taken across the Savannah River, and burned at the stake near what is today Columbia, Georgia. His widow filed a claim for his service in the Revolutionary War in 1790.5
