In the name of God amen. I William Hancks of the County and parish in Granville being weak in body in perfect and Sound memory Thanks be to God for the same. Calling to mind the Mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die. I give and bequeath my body to the earth to be buried in decent like manner at the discretion of my Executors as is followeth. I give my Soul in to the hands of God that first Gave it me nothing doubting that I shall Receive the Same again at the General Resurrection. I nominate my Three Sons Elijah, Argill & William hancks to be my Executors at my last will and Testament land and tenements.
Item. I give and bequeath the lands over the Ridge Rode unto Elijah hancks during his life time. I also give the land on N.B. and at his Death the land shall be sold and the money equally divided among all the Children living. All the old deeded land and the land bequeathed by the Ridge Rode to William hancks and his lawful heirs and begotten of body. Also I give a negro winch Called Nan and also I give all the han tools and the Crop that is now growing on the plantation and also a mare and Colt Called Lib(?) and also two a piece(?) to William hancks and Susannah Hancks and also a case of drawers two Cows and Calves and young horse called mountain Saddle and bridle and also a negro Girl Called Rachel and a negro boy Called Daniel.
Item. I also give to my son Argill a negro boy named Simon.
Item. I also give unto my daughter Hannah More a negro boy called Samuel.
Item. I also give to my son William and Susannah hancks all the pewter that I possess.
Item. and also I land the land that my daughter Milly Barnes now lives on during her lifetime and after her decease I give it to my Gran Son William Barnes.
Item. and the Remainder of my estate to be sold and the money arissing to be Equally divided amongst all my Children then alive.
This is my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal the 10th of July 1787.
