     Capt. Humphrey Scammon was born on 10 May 1677 in Kittery, York County, Maine.2 He was the son of Humphrey Scammon and Elizabeth (—?—) (Scammon).2,3 He married probably second Elizabeth Jordan, daughter of Dominicus Jordan and Hannah Tristram, circa 1714.2 He died on 31 May 1734 in Saco, York County, at age 57.2
     
     In the agreement between Capt. Humphrey Scammon, Nathaniel Weare and Pepperrell (afterwards Sir William) he is styled "Mariner." He was a prominent man and large land owner. Of his ten children, the oldest two are probably by an unidentified first wife.2

The lands and other property of Capt. Humphrey Scammon were divided in 1736 among his sons Humphrey, Dominicus, James, Nathaniel and Benjamin, the heirs of his deceased daughter, Hannah Brown, and daughters Elizabeth Goodwin, Mary Scammon and Sarah Scammon.6
