     William Ralston was born circa 1708 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.1,3 He was the son of John Ralston and Dorothy Nicholson.2,3 He married Eleanor (—?—).3 He died in August 1767 in Augusta County, Virginia.3
     
     William Ralston served as a member of the colonial militia under Colonel John Buchanan in 1758. He with his son Matthew established a large plantation in Augusta County, Virginia, adjoining historic "Greenfield," owned by the Prestons.2 William Ralston's will was recorded in Augusta County, Virginia, in 1767. He divided his estate and named as one of his heirs his son Matthew Raulston who later removed to Tennessee.2
