     James Gray was baptized on 15 September 1723 in First Church, Berwick, York County, Maine.1 He was the son of Robert Gray and Jannet (—?—) (Gray).1
     
     In 1744, James's father conveyed to him property in Biddeford, York County, Maine, recently purchased from Humphrey Scammon, for which he gave back to his father a life lease.2
