William H. Kennedy was born say 1838 in Camden, Kershaw County, South Carolina.1 He was the son of William Kennedy II and Mary Haile.1
William H. Kennedy was in Texas by 1860, at which time he was operating Waverly Plantation, near Chenango, Brazoria County, Texas, that his father had established on land bought in 1842 and 1848. According to the 1860 census, William H., had 124 slaves who worked 975 improved acres to produce 600 bushels of corn and 807 bales of cotton. In that year Kennedy had real property valued at $36,800 and personal property valued at $127,330.1
