     Ammon Underwood was born on 1 September 1887 in Columbia, Brazoria County, Texas.1,2,3 He was the son of John Carson Underwood and Lucy Harris. He married Alvia Francklow circa 1919.4 He died on 16 November 1986 in Llano County, Texas, at age 99.2,5 He was buried in Old Columbia Cemetery, West Columbia, Brazoria County, Texas.2 Click to view image
     
     Ammon was a member of the Texas A&M Class of 1907 where he received his degree in civil engineering. He donated one million dollars of real estate to the University. Eventually, the university will receive the rest of his estate. He worked with British East Africa Ltd., the Federal Land Bank and the Farm Credit Administration during his career. A dormitory at A&M constructed in 1981 is named for him.

Described as being of medium height and build with blue eyes and brown hair, he was a single stock raiser and farmer living in Houston. He had previous military service and claimed an exemption from the draft.3
