     Jennet Hanks was born on 31 January 1803.1 She was the daughter of John Hanks and Jane Douglas Armstrong.1 On 3 February 1826, John M. Ray took out a marriage bond from the clerk of the court in Orange County, North Carolina, as surety that there was no legal obstacle to the proposed marriage between he and Jennet Hanks. William Ray was bondsman; Joseph A. Woods, witness.2
     
     John and Jane Hanks Ray probably had a son, Thomas W., whose death is recorded in the Hanks' Bible Dictionary as "Jenuary 28 - 1827 —."1
