Nathaniel Wells was born on 2 January 1771 in Abbeville District, South Carolina.1 He married Elizabeth Simmons, daughter of Robert Simmons and Ann Miller, in 1802 in Abbeville District, South Carolina.1 He died on 28 October 1843 in Mississippi at age 72.1
Nathaniel Wells and Elizabeth Wells moved in 1804 to Mississippi.1 In 1812 he raised a company of Cavalry to fight in the Creek Indian War.1 In 1814 he was elected a major in the 13th Regiment and served in the Battle of New Orleans.1 In 1821 he was elected to the Mississippi legislature.1
