John Farmer was born on 1 December 1762.2 He was the son of Oliver Farmer and Rachel Shed.2 He married Lydia Richardson, daughter of Josiah Richardson and Lydia Warren, on 24 January 1788 in Westford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. They both were of Chelmsford.1,3,2 John died on 17 November 1814 in Merrimack, New Hampshire, at age 51.2
John and Lydia had five children. John, their oldest, was a distinguished antiquary. His most important work is the Genealogical Register of the First Settlers of New England.2
