Mary Alsop was born on 17 October 1769 in New York City, New York.1 She was the daughter of John Alsop and Mary Frogat.1 She married Rufus King, son of Richard King and Isabella Bragdon, on 30 March 1786 in New York City. Mary was the only child of a wealthy New York merchant, who was a member of the first Continental Congress. She was noted for beauty and an unspoiled nature, and at sixteen married Rufus King.2 She died on 6 June 1819 at age 49.1
