Family Background:
Fairfield and Allied Families
Temperance Willis was baptized on 13 February 1647 in First Church, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.4,2 She was the daughter of Michael Willis and Joan (—?—).3,2 She was baptized 9 day 2 mo. 1648 (9 April 1648) in First Church "Temperance of Michael Wills member of ch. of Dorchester."5,2,6 She married Nathaniel Stedman, son of Isaac Stedman and Elizabeth (—?—) (Stedman), after 21 June 1669 when Michael Willis indicated in his will that his daughter Temperance was not married.7,3,8

It is usually stated that Temperance was the mother of Nathaniel, Hannah and Mary Stedman. However, it appears that the first two, and perhaps Mary, were born before she married Nathaniel Stedman, Sr. John Lisle, Webmaster of the Stedman Family Organization site, reports that the Boyd Patterson Ancestry (1967) by H. Minot Pittman, FASG, and Katherine Patterson Boyd Hunt, gives a marriage date of 27 January 1677/78 for Nathaniel and Temperance. If correct, Mary was likewise not Temperance's child.

Additional Data
