Edward Hilton was baptized on 5 June 1596 in Northwich, Cheshire, England.1 He was the son of William Hilton.1 He married Katherine Shapleigh, daughter of Alexander Shapleigh, soon after 1654.1 He died between 19 May 1669 March 1670/71 at age 72.1
He was the first permanent settler in New Hampshire, and a prominent citizen in the early history of that colony.1
