     Samuel Richardson was born on 21 February 1672/73 in Chelmsford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Josiah Richardson and Remembrance Underwood.1 He married Rachel Howard on 27 January 1702/3 in Chelmsford.2 He died on 23 April 1754 in Chelmsford at age 81.3 He was buried in Forefather's Burying Ground, Chelmsford Center.4
     
     By his grandfather William Underwood's will dated 14 March 1693/94, Samuel inherited cattle and corn equal to the value of the land given to his cousin Edward Spalding.5 On 12 March 1696, the widow and children of Josiah Richardson, who died intestate 22 July 1695, entered an agreement for the division of the estate by which "The four sons of said Captain Richardson, namely Josiah, Jonathan, John and Samuell," divided the upland and meadows. Samuel also was assigned certain stock and tools.
