     Ensign James Heard married an unknown person.3 He was the son of John Heard and Isabel (—?—) (Heard).2 He married Shuah by 1661. He died between 6 July 1670 and 3 March 1675/76.1
     
     Ensign James Heard of Kittery, York County, Maine, is first mentioned in the records as a lot layer. He was an ensign by June 1655, on the trial jury in 1656, and on the grand jury in 1657, 1661 and 1662, the latter year as foreman. He was Clerk of the Commissioners Court of Kittery and Clerk of the Writs in 1659, Selectman in 1659, 1661 and 1666-1669, and Town Clerk in 1667-1669. He was removed from both as a Quaker in 1669.1
