Location of Durham, England
"This parish comprising the townships of Cockfield and Woodland, is bounded on the north by Lynesack, on the west by the parish of Middleton-in-Teesdale, on the south by Barnard Castle and Staindrop parishes, and on the east by St. Helen's Auckland." [GENUKI, citing History, Topography and Directory of Durham, Whellan , London, 1894].

Cockfield is 4.6 miles east-northeast of Auckland St. Helen and two miles northeast of Ramshaw. All of our known Durham relations lived in one or more of these three villages.
