Seventh Day of the Tenth month anno Dom: 1745 Proved 21 January 1748 Register of Wills In and for the County of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Book I page 48, Will no. 28. Copy of original will:


I Catherine William of Montgomery in the County of Philadelphia and Province of Pennsylvania Widow being antient and far advanced in years but of Sound mind memory and understanding, Think proper to make and ordain this my Last Will And Testament in manner here after Expressed first of all I will that all my Just Debts and funeral Expences be fully paid and Discharged

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Grand Son Edward M[orris] the Sum of Twenty five Pounds Lawfull money of the said Province Together with one Rugg & Elbow Chair

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Grand Son Morris Morris the Sum of one Hundred pounds Lawfull money of Pennsylvania, and also my feather bed Boulster & Curtains

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Grand Son David Morris the Sum of One hundred Pounds of the Like money and my Warming pan and Two Sheets

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Grand Son William Morris the Sum of one Hundred Pounds Current Lawfull money of Pennsylvania also fire shovel, Tongs, Dog Irons and one Blanket

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Grand Daughter Catherine Eaton the full and Just sum of Sixty Pounds of the Like money and one Blanket and Two Sheets

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Grand Daughter Alic Clarke the Sum of fifty Pounds Lawfull money as aforesd and one Covelid

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Sons in Law William Williams and Theophilus Williams the Sum of Fourty [] of the like Lawfull money To be equally divided between them to be paid in Two years after my Decease [William and Theophilus were sons of John William, Catherine's third husband.]

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Daughter in Law Anne Foulke the Sum of Fourty Pounds of the like money to be paid unto her in Two years after my Decease [Ann Foulke was the daughter of John William and wife of Hugh Foulke.]

Item I Give and bequeath unto the friends of the Preparative Meeting at Gwynedd the Just sum of fifty pounds Lawfull money of Pennsylvania to be paid in two years after my Decease

The Interest thereof yearly and Every year I will and Direct to the Relief of the poor and Indigent of the People Called Quakers in the Township of Gwynedd and Mountgomery to be Distributed at the Discretion of the sd friends

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Nieces the Daughters of William Morgan to wit Margaret, Sarah, Catherine & Mary the Sum of Twenty Pounds of the like money to be Equally Divided between them Share and Share a like

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Nephews Evan, Robert, and Griffith Hugh the Sum of fifteen Pounds Lawfull money as aforesd to be Equally Divided amongst them

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Cousins David Hugh and his wife Jane the full and Just sum of five Pounds

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Cousins, David, Obediah, and Zachariah Edwards the Full and Just Sum of fifteen Pounds Lawfull money of Pennsilvania to be Equally Divided between them Share and Share a like

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Neice Margaret George the full and Just sum of Tenn Pounds of the Like lawfull money

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Cousins Jesse George and unto Jane his Sister the Sum of Tenn Pounds to be Equally Divided between them Share and Share alike

Item I Give and bequeath unto my Great Grand Daughter Catherine the Daughter of Edward M[orris] my Case of Drawers

Item I Give and bequeath unto my friends John Davies & his wife Mary the Sum of five pounds of the like lawfull money as aforesd

Item I Give and bequeath unto William Hart Thom[---] David, and J Elisabeth William (Orphans living at John Jones) the Sum of Three pounds Lawfull money to be Equally Divided between them Share and Sahre a like

I Give and bequeath unto my Nephew John Jones all the remainder of my Estate Goods and Chattels whatsoever nothing Excepted Save the afore:mentioned Legacies Constituting Deputing and Appointing him to be whole and Sole Executor of this my Last will & Testament

I doe hereby Nominate and appoint my friends & persons Owen Evans, & John Evans to be Overseers of this my will and Testament. Finally I Revoke & make void all former and other wills & Testamts by me heretofore made or Declared to be made Either by word of mouth or writing I witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal [-] Seventh Day of the Tenth month anno Dom: 1745

Philad 21 Janry 1748. Then personally appeared aubrey Roberts one of the witnesses to the foregoing will and on his solemn affirmation according to Law did Declare & affirm he Saw & heard Catherine Williams the Testatrix therein named Sign, Seal, Publish & declare the Same will for & was her Last will & Testament and that at the Doing thereof She was of Sound mind & Memory & Understands to the best of his knowledge and that Garret Peters & Jno Roberts the other witnesss thereto both now in an Ill State of health & unable to Travell did also Subscribed their Names as a witness thereto in the presence of & at the request of the Testatrix.
