     Jonathan Butterfield was born in England.1 He was the son of Benjamin Butterfield and Ann or Anna (—?—) (Butterfield).1 He married Mary Dixon, daughter of William Dixon and Jane (—?—), on 12 June 1667 in Cambridge.2 He died on 3 April 1673 in Chelmsford.1,3 17 June 1673. "Admn on the estate of Jona. Butterfield, lately dec'd at Chelmsford, is granted to his father, Benjn Butterfield, and his father-in-law, Wm Dix, in behalf of ye children of ye said Jonathan. An inventory of the estate of Jonathan Buterfield who deceased on the 3d of Aprill 1673. Apprized by us &c. the 15th of April 1673.

     He accompanied his parents in their immigration to New England and lived with them at Charlestown, Woburn and Chelmsford.1 He was one of the committee appointed to appraise the estate of Daniel Blodget, 18 April 1672, and, as such, signed the appraisal in a plain round hand, Jona: Butterfeilde.5
