     Joseph Butterfield was born on 15 August 1649 in Woburn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.1,2 He was the son of Benjamin Butterfield and Ann or Anna (—?—) (Butterfield).1 He married Lydia Ballard, daughter of William Ballard of Andover, on 12 April 1674 in Chelmsford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.3 He died in 1720, as his estate was appraised on 22 December 1720, and inventoried on the same date.1
