Henry Horn was born on 1 June 1858 in Freestone County, Texas.1,2,3 He was the son of William Lemuel Horn and Minerva Ann Malone.1 He married Mary Richard Slaughter on 15 December 1881 in Freestone County, Texas.4 He married Nancy Melisa Smith on 8 May 1907 in Cordell, Washita County, Oklahoma.2 He died on 3 November 1936 in Carnegie, Caddo County, Oklahoma, at age 78.1,2,3 He was buried in Alfalfa Cemetery, 8½ miles north of Carnegie, Caddo County, Oklahoma.5
Henry and Mary (Slaughter) Horn lived in a log cabin near Fairfield, Texas, until the fall of 1888 when they packed up an ox wagon and moved to Saginaw near Fort Worth in Tarrant County. On 7 February 1889 they left Tarrant County and moved to Stonewall County, arriving at the home of Henry's parents on the 17th. In 1894, they moved to Claremont in Kent County, and in 1898 to Dowell, a community northeast of Rotan in northern Fisher County. On 12 July 1902 they loaded three wagons and moved to Marlow, Oklahoma, which was at that time in the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. They lived in Marlow for almost a year before moving to Mountain View, Kiowa County, Oklahoma.6,3 Kiowa County was previously part of the Kiowa-Comanche-Apache Lands in southwestern Oklahoma Territory. These lands were broken up in 1901, and a lottery on over two million acres for homesteads was held, the winners each receiving 160 acres. Henry, however, did not receive lottery land.
