Wiley Sanford Thornton was born in 1852 in Russell County, Alabama.1 He married Mary Alice Owens, daughter of Thomas Jackson Owens and Celia Ann Alice Horn, in June 1874.1 He died on 26 March 1886.1 He was buried in Old Rehoboth Cemetery, near Young, Freestone County, Texas.1
