Joseph French was born circa 1755.2 He married Ruth Farrar, daughter of Joseph Farrar and Deborah Richardson, on 5 October 1775 in Templeton.1 He married Phoebe Stoddard on 24 November 1817 in Sullivan, Cheshire County, New Hampshire.2 He died on 6 January 1835 in Ludlow, Windsor County, Vermont.2
He enlisted at Templeton, Worcester County, Massachusetts, in 1774 as a drummer in a company of Minute Men. He fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill, at Stillwater and at Saratoga. He was granted a pension for his service in 1834.2
