     Samuel Stowell was born on 2 September 1742 in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut.1 He was the son of David Stowell and Mary Foster.1 He married Anna Russ, daughter of John Russ and Rebecca Wood, on 24 April 1760 in Willington, Tolland County, Connecticut.2 He died on 30 January 1824 in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut, at age 81.2
     
     Samuel joined the Willington Church on 26 July 1761.2 He is recorded as Samuel Stoel of Willington in 16 deeds 1767 to 1804 in Willington Land Records.2 He was in the Revolution. Corp. Samuel Stowell paid from 1 Jan. 1781 to 31 Dec. 1781. 1st Co. Capt. Edward Bulkley, 3d Regt. Col. Samuel B. Webb, on the rolls 25 April 1782, also Light Inf. Co. Capt. Wells, afterwards transferred.3 He is on the 1820 pension list.4 Samuel was famous for his great strength and is accounted the strongest man ever raised in Willington and she the handsomest woman.2 He and Anna Russ had thirteen children all born in Willington, Tolland County, Connecticut.5
