Nathaniel Stowell was born on 7 December 1734 in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut.1 He was the son of Nathaniel Stowell and Margaret Trowbridge.1 He married Lois Bugbee, daughter of Colonel Jesse Bugbee and Experience Peake, on 21 May 1761 in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut.2 He died on 23 March 1814 in Peru, Massachusetts, at age 79.2
Nathaniel Stowell was a farmer.2 He lived in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut, until 1768.2 He moved in 1768 to Partridgeville (now Peru), Massachusetts, when he built a log house and dug the first well.2 He and Lois were addmitted to Peru Church in 1799.2 They had twelve children.3

Nathaniel was Corporal of Pomfret Co. in 1756-7. Marched out as Clerk of the Pomfret Co., Capt. John Grovenor, after the alarm of the capture of Fort William Henry.
In March 1775, was one of the Committee of Safety. 22 April 1775, went with Capt. Nathan Watkins' Co. of minute men and the Mass. Register says he was at battle of Bunker Hill. When the Co. returned to Peru he remained and was stationed at Fort No. 3, Charlestown, N. H. He was private in Capt. Zebulon Norten's Co., Maj. Hyde's Berkshire Militia.2
Nathaniel Stowell purchased Lot No. 17, Partridgeville (now Peru), Massachusetts in August 1767.2
Nathaniel Stowell was elected Town Clerk at the first meeting held in Peru in August 1771.2
