Joseph Neale was born 14: 1: 1659 (14 March 1659) in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts.1,2 He was the son of John Neale and Mary Lawes.1 He married Judith Croad.3

Joseph Neale was mentioned in his grandfather Francis Lawes's will dated 6 November 1665 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts. His legacy was the two acre lot on Essex Street which was originally the property of Thomas Antrum, sold to Mr. Lawes by Mr. Edmund Batter.4,5,6
Joseph Neale was mentioned in his father John Neale's will dated 3 May 1672 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts. He was left one-third of Watson and Hale's lot of fifteen acres, an acre of salt marsh and one-sixth of Adams' swamp.7
Jeremiah Neale, administrator of the estate of Mary Mansfield, executrix of the estate of her former husband John Neale, brought in an inventory on oath of about 31li., which was to be divided into six shares. Jeremiah Neale, the oldest son, was to have a double portion, the other four shares to be to Jonathan Neale and Joseph Neale, and the widow Ann Neale for the use of her children and the children of Jonathan Hart that he had by Lidea Neale. [Ipswich Quarterly Court, September 1681]8
Joseph Neale was constable of Salem in 1692, the year of the witchcraft delusion, but aside from his returns on warrants for arrest, his name does not appear in the records of that event.3
Joseph Neale was living in 1707 in Salem but within the next two years he moved to Pennsylvania. In 1718 he was dead, his children stating in an heirship deed "Whereas Mr. Joseph Neale formerly of Salem more lately of Pensylvania dec'd" etc.9
