     Carleton Walker Hanks was born on 3 December 1854 in Pittsboro, Chatham County, North Carolina.2,3 He was the son of John Armstrong Hanks and Catherine Burke Walker.1 He died on 9 March 1931 at age 76.1 He was buried in Pittsboro United Methodist Church Cemetery.1 Click to view image
     
     Walker Hanks never married. He supposedly lived his entire life in Chatham County, although he is nowhere to be found on the 1880 Census. His father and brother Thomas Hanks appear as the last family on the sheet, and a guess is that Walker was simply overlooked by the census taker.
