     John E. Steinman was born on 19 March 1873 in Hardin County, Ohio.1 He was the son of Peter Steinman and Carolina Magdalena Gramlich.1 He married Lizzie Birken.1 He died on 29 July 1957 at age 84.1
     
     John and Elias Steinman moved to Montana in 1893. Their older brother David had moved there the previous year.2
