Stephen Munson
Milam Stephen Munson was born on 26 September 1869 at Ridgely Plantation, Bailey's Prairie, Brazoria County, Texas.1 He was the son of Mordello Stephen Munson and Sarah Kimbrough Armour. He married Carrie Diggs, daughter of William Harry Diggs and Laura Jane Underwood, on 9 April 1901 in Brazoria County.2 He died on 15 October 1950 in Angleton, Brazoria County, Texas, at age 81.3 He was buried in Munson Cemetery, Bailey's Prairie, Brazoria County, Texas.4 Click to view image

Stephen obtained a law degree from the University of Texas Law School at the age of 18 and practiced law in Angleton. For thirty years, from 1920 until his death in 1950, he was Texas State District Judge in Angleton. He was the presiding judge on the occasion of the last legal hanging in Brazoria County.1

Writer's note: Cousin Stephen alway stood out among the men in the family because he was usually the only one not dressed like a cattleman. He died during the Brazoria County Fair, and I went with Cousin Hattie (Kennedy) to the fairgrounds to get Cuz (George Kennedy) who was a fair official. The gates weren't open yet, and Hubba Hubba, the fair clown, saw us and came to the fence. He got Cuz, and Cousin Hattie delivered the sad news. Cousin Stephen's death was the first in the family of which I have memory.
