Carrie grew up in (East) Columbia, but lived all her married life in Angleton. She and Louise Underwood were first cousins, and their husbands were first cousins. Therefore, all of her children were second cousins twice to Louise's children. Carrie loved her yard, and a visit almost always included a tour to show off whatever was in bloom. The writer remembers, in particular, her Confederate roses and tropical waterlilies.
