Joseph Armstrong was born on 22 April 1764 in Orange County, North Carolina.2 He was the son of John Armstrong and Anne (—?—) (Armstrong).1 On 15 May 1786, Joseph Armstrong took out a marriage bond from the clerk of the court in Orange County, North Carolina, as surety that there was no legal obstacle to the proposed marriage between he and Frances Tinnen.3 He married Frances Tinnen on 18 May 1786.2 He died in 1845 in Orange County, North Carolina.1 His will was proved in February 1846 in Orange County.4
