Gilbert Cobb Richardson was born in 1809 in Johnston County, North Carolina.1 He was the son of Samuel Garthon Richardson and Celah Hackney. He married Lucy Caroline Cosper on 14 December 1833 in Greene County, Alabama.2 He died on 22 June 1862 in Robertson County, Texas.3 Gilbert Cobb Richardson's probate was filed on 18 July 1862 in Robertson County, Texas.4 He was buried in Owensville Cemetery, Robertson County.3

The year of his birth according to the online cemetery transcription was 1797. This is probably either a transcription error, or an error on the gravestone. To support that it is an error, census records are consistent, showing his age as 41 in 1850 and 51 in 1860.
