     Henry Massingill of Watauga married Mary Cobb, daughter of Benjamin Cobb.1
     
     Henry Massingill moved from North Carolina to the Watauga settlement in Tennessee in 1769, served two years as sheriff of Washington District, was chairman of a Committee of Safety, 1778, and served on the staff of Captain William Edmiston on an expedition against the Chickamauga Indians in 1779.2
