In Surry County, Virginia, on 14 April 1690, John Vincent and Katherine his wife of Southwarke Parish convey to Richard Rose for 500 pounds of good tobacco and cask, 100 acres of land in Southwarke Parish beg. on Cherry Branch ..... Fra: Sowerbys line ..... Ralph Creeds' line. Signed: John (his mark) Vincent and Katherine (her K mark) Vincent. Wit: none. Acknowledged in court by both grantors March 1691. This deed between the Vincents (Vinsons) and Katherine Vincent's son-in-law Richard Rose is to part of the Sowerby lands granted to Francis Sowerby in 1666/67.2

The will of John Vinson of Southwark Parish in Surry County dated 20 October 1698, gives to wife Katherine Vinson 180 acres of land, and names her sole executrix. Signed: John (his mark) Vinson. Wit: Fra. Sowerby, Richard Rose, Tho. Sowerby, and proved 4 July 1699 by the two Sowerby witnesses.3 This land was later bequeathed by Katherine Vinson to Richard Rose's son Thomas.4
