Ivory's father moved to the Landing, where he erected a large three-story house and a good-sized store. Later it was occupied by Ivory and Louisa and the store was run by Ivory and his brother George. This co-partnership was started in 1817. The store offered a full assortment of the goods usually found in a country store. The giant open fireplace in the counting room of the store became the gathering place for seamen and ship carpenters.6
