     Lieut. John Burbank was born on 27 September 1699 in Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Caleb Burbank Jr. and Hannah Acie.1 He married first Priscilla Major, daughter of Benjamin Major and Hannah Bailey.2 He married second Hannah Hutchins, daughter of Samuel Hutchins of Arundel, after 12 May 1735 at which date Hannah's first husband George Perkins was living.3
     
     Lieut. John Burbank came from Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts, to Arundel, now Kennebunkport, Maine, between 1722 and 1725, as he was a proprietor in 1726 at Arundel.3 He was a mill man, and was called "gentleman." He engaged in the coast-wise trace, owned several ships, and lost one on her first voyage to Halifax in 1750. He and brothers Lieut. Timothy Burbank and Asa Burbank were with William Pepperell at the capture of Louisburg in 1745. He was 2nd Lieutenant in Captain Peter Staples Company, his brothers in Captain Thomas Perkins's Company.4 It is stated that he was prominent in both business and social affairs.3

He was mentioned in his father Caleb Burbank Jr.'s will dated 14 December 1744 in Boxford, Essex County, Massachusetts.5 Deed: John Burbank of Arundel Gentleman, and Hannah, his wife, formerly widow of George Perkins of Arundel, yeoman in right of said Hannah, for 14 pounds to Gideon Walker of Arundel, tanner, 60 acres formerly of the estate of Thomas Perkins of said Arundel, 17 October 1752; signed John Burbank and Hannah Burbank, her mark; witnesses Thomas Perkins and Abner Perkins.3

Lieut. John Burbank is described in other York County deeds as follows: in 1729 "fisherman," 1734 and 1737 "mill man," in 1723 had a garrison near site later occupied by an old meeting house built in 1760 on "Burbank Hill."6
