John Black was probably born circa 1802 in Washington County, Pennsylvania.1,2 He was the son of Philip Black Jr. and Catharine Baughman.1 He married Sarah Yent on 14 July 1825 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.3

John and Sarah Black appeared on the 1 June 1850 Federal Census of Sandy township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, enumerated 16 October 1850. Their children Philip, Catharine, Eliza, Clarissa and Rosanna were listed as living with them.2
