Philip Black Jr. was probably born circa 1775 in Pennsylvania.1,4 He was the son of Philip Black.3 He married Catharine, daughter of Abraham Baughman and Mary Katharine Deeds.2 He died on 2 August 1823 in Stark County, Ohio.5
Philip Black was a Pennsylvania German. Sometime after 1802 when his son John was born, and before 1810 when he appears on a Stark County, Ohio, tax list,6 he moved his family from Washington County, Pennsylvania, "to few miles south of Canton, O. on the wagon road leading from that city to Sandyville."2 In his journal, Francis Cordrey wrote an article about his grandfather.
