Ella Harriet Underwood
     Ella Harriet Underwood was born on 13 October 1852 in the Underwood home, Columbia, Brazoria County, Texas,1 (now East Columbia). She was the daughter of Ammon Underwood and Rachel Jane Carson. She married Milam Borden, son of Paschal Pavolo Borden and Martha Ann Stafford, on 6 October 1873 in Brazoria County, Texas.2 She died on 24 June 1912 in Columbia, Brazoria County, Texas, at age 59.1 She was buried in Old Columbia Cemetery, West Columbia, Brazoria County, Texas.1 Click to view image
     
     Ella married the grandson of Gail Borden Sr. who was the second husband of her grandmother Catherine Jane Patterson Carson. She and Milam were married less than two years when Milam died and Ella never remarried.

Ella H. Borden, widow of Milam, was living in 1891 at the southeast corner of Broadway and 13th, Galveston, Galveston County, Texas. Living with her was her mother, Rachel J. Underwood, and her niece and namesake, Miss Ella Diggs.7
