William Dyer was born on 1 May 1683 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts,: "William Dyer, son of John Dier and Sarah his wife was borne the first of May, Anno 1683 lapsed in former records, entered at his father's request by B. T. Cler. Brantr."4,5 He was the son of John Dyer and Sarah Dowse.2,3 He married Mary Chadbourne, daughter of Lieut. Humphrey Chadbourne and Sarah Bolles, on 1 July 1708 in First Church, Kittery, York County, Maine.1,6,2 He died before 19 October 1741 in Biddeford, York County, Maine, when inventory was taken of his estate.7
William Dyer was the only child of his father's first marriage.7 He left home early according to his father's will of 1731/32.2 He was the only one of the family to live in Maine. He was masting above Salmon Falls in December 1707.2 He lived in Kittery in that part set off as Berwick in 1713, and in Biddeford.2
