     Sarah Bates was born in 1677/78 in Chelmsford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.1 She was the daughter of John Bates and Mary Farwell.1 She married Benjamin Butterfield, son of Nathaniel Butterfield and Deborah Underwood, on 16 February 1697 in Chelmsford.2,1 Marriage intention for Sarah Bates and David Carver of Canterbury was published on 14 January 1721/22 in Chelmsford.3,4 Marriage intention for Sarah Bates and Ensign Richard Hildreth was published on 20 April 1728 in Chelmsford.3,4 She died on 5 April 1735 in Chelmsford "in her 58th year."3,5
