     Nathaniel Butterfield was born on 14 February 1642/43 in Woburn, Massachusetts.2,3 He was the son of Benjamin Butterfield and Ann or Anna (—?—) (Butterfield). He married Deborah Underwood, daughter of William Underwood and Sarah (—?—) (Underwood), on 31 December 1668 in Chelmsford.1
     
     Nathaniel Butterfield was a husbandman who lived at Chelmsford.2 On 10 January 1709/10, Nathaniel Butterfield divided his real estate in the north part of Chelmsford between his three sons, Benjamin, Samuel and Nathaniel, giving deeds to each.4 Nathaniel was living in December 1719, aged 76, according to the probate papers of his son Benjamin.5,2
