     William Joseph Borden was born on 1 January 1849 in Richmond, Fort Bend County, Texas.1 He was the son of Paschal Pavolo Borden and Martha Ann Stafford.1 He married Emma Eliza Graves on 20 May 1880 in Galveston, Galveston County, Texas.1 He died in July 1898 in New York City, New York, at age 49.1
     William Joseph Borden was blind from birth. He was educated at Rochester, New York, and was a man of unusually brilliant qualities of mind.1

Joseph Borden appeared on the 1 June 1860 Federal Census of Columbia, Brazoria County, Texas, in the household of A. and Rachel Underwood, his father Pascal Pavolo Borden's stepsister, with his aunt by marriage, Luvica Borden, and grandfather Gale Borden, Gail's wife C.J. and her granddaughter Sarah J.
