     John Stone was born circa 1622 in England.2 He was the son of John Stone.1 He married Abigail Dixey, daughter of Captain William Dixey and Ann or Hannah (—?—) (Dixey), circa 1652.3 He died before 25 September 1691 when his widow and administratrix presented an inventory of his estate.1
     
     John and Abigail Stone lived in Beverly where he kept an inn from 1673 to 1682. He is called a seaman in 1677, and it is probable that the business of the inn was the principal care of his wife. It is recorded that a rally of the militia, under Capt. Dixey, took place at the Stone inn at eight o'clock on the morning of 14 January 1676.4

At Salem Quarterly Court in June 1676, reference was made to an agreement reached 28: 6: 1665 ( 28 August 1665) by the following inhabitants of the field on Cape Ann side (Beverly): William dickse, Samuel Corning, Josiah Roots, sr., Thomas Pickton, John Galley, henery Bayley, John lovet, jr., Thomas Tuck, Richard Stackhouse, hugh Woodbury by William dixey, William hoare by John Galleys, Richard haines, Thomas Chub, John Stone (or his son John Stone), and Raph Ellingwood.5

John Stone was an overseer of Robert Morgan's will in 1672.1

John Stone took the Oath of fidelity in 1677.1

Among those who took the oath of fidelity at Beverly 3 December 1677, were John Stone, seaman, Joseph Lovett, weaver, George Standley, fisherman, and John Lovett, cooper.6

John Stone was made executor of his father-in-law Captain William Dixey's will dated 21 February 1684/85. "Loving sons" John Stone and Edmund Gale were made executors, but a codicile made John Stone sole executor.7

On 25 September 1691 John Stone's widow and administratrix presented an inventory taken by Paul Thorndike, Zachariah Herrick and Nehemiah Grover, amounting to £228 :1. Abigail Stone, whose bondsmen were Joseph Morgan and Sergeant Balch, died before completing her trust and administration was granted to Samuel Stone "now eldest son," 12 July 1703.8

John's son Samuel presented an account and a division of the estate on 13 March 1703/4, the heirs being sons Samuel (double portion), Jonathan Stone and Nehemiah Stone, daughters Abigail Briscoe and Anna Stone, and grandchildren Hannah, Abigail and William Stone, children of William Stone, deceased.8
