     Nathaniel Butterfield was born on 28 March 1673 in Chelmsford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.2 He was the son of Nathaniel Butterfield and Deborah Underwood.2 He married Sarah Fletcher, daughter of Lieutenant William Fletcher and Sarah Richardson, on 18 January 1697/98 in Chelmsford.1 He died on 5 March 1748/49 in Chelmsford at age 75.3
     
     Nathaniel's father divided his real estate in the north part of Chelmsford on 10 January 1709/10 between he and his two brothers, Benjamin and Samuel, giving deeds to each.4
