Joshua Whitacre was born circa 1753 in Warren County, New Jersey, or Bucks County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of John Whitacre and Naomi Hulme.1 He married Ann Steer on 22 April 1780 in Loudoun County, Virginia.1 He died in 1830 in Columbiana County, Ohio.1

On 31 10m 1761 (31 October 1761), Joshua Whitacre, with his parents John and Naomi Whitacre, and brothers George, Joseph, Benjamin, Caleb and Robert, were received at Fairfax Monthly Meeting, Loudoun County, Virginia, on certificate from Kingwood Monthly Meeting, New Jersey, dated 13 8m 1761 (13 August 1761).2
Joshua Whitacre was condemned for joining the army in 11m 1776 (November 1776), and was disowned for same on 24 4m 1777. His wife Ann was disowned for marrying out of unity, but made acknowledgement and was reinstated. Joshua made an acknowledgement through Goose Creek Monthly Meeting, within the verge of which Meeting he lived, 24 11m 1792 (24 November 1792), but it was not accepted by Fairfax Monthly Meeting. He and Ann moved to Ohio after 24 11m 1804 (24 November 1804) on which date Ann was granted a certificate to Middleton Monthly Meeting, Columbiana County, Ohio.2
