Mary Tilton was born circa 1658.2 She was the daughter of Samuel Tilton.2 She married Lieutenant Isaac Chase, son of Thomas Chase and Elizabeth Philbrick, on 5 October 1675 in Tisbury, Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County, Massachusetts.1,3,2 She died on 14 June 1746.2 She was buried in Crossways Cemetery on Mount Aldworth Height, Vineyard Haven, Dukes County, Massachusetts.3

The parentage of Mary Tilton is not proven. When Samuel Tilton, his family and friends moved from Hampton, New Hampshire, to Martha's Vineyard about 1673, Mary was with them. She was too young to have been Samuel's sister based on the death date of Samuel's father William who died in the winter of 1652/53, and the birth of Mary's last child in 1703. Walter Goodwin Davis believed Mary was Samuel's illegitimate daughter who was acknowledged and brought up by him and his wife Hannah Moulton.2
