Elisha Thomas and Nancy Susanna Horn deeded three acres of ground for a "complete site for a meeting house," and appeared before S.J. McKay, Justice of the Peace, on 4 July 1857 to acknowledge that they signed the deed to Zion Hill Church. The deed was recorded on 17 August 1857. The same year, Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church was organized in the home of Elisha Thomas Horn, and the church governing body licensed him to preach.6
On 1 October 1859, Elisha T. Horn patented 312.31 and 41.79 acres in Leake County, Mississippi, by authority of an 1820 Act of Congress.9,6
Elisha T. appeared on the 1 June 1860 Federal Census of Carthage, Leake County, Mississippi, enumerated 1 August 1860. His children John T. and Elijah F. were listed as living with him, as were his stepchildren James M., Thadeus E. and Augustus T. White.10
E.T. and Mary Horne appeared on the 1 June 1870 Federal Census of Carthage, Leake County, Mississippi, enumerated 21 June 1870. His children from a previous marriage, Mary, Rebecca and Elijah, were listed as living with them, as was his stepson Sidney Horne.11
E. Thomas and J. Mary Horne appeared on the 1 June 1880 Federal Census of Edinburg, Leake County, Mississippi, enumerated 10 June 1880.12
